Being an avid reader, I have a voracious appetite for books and often consume multiple novels each week. Over time, I have developed the knack of foreseeing how a book will end as I delve deeper into the storyline.
While I don’t mind this predictability and enjoy the occasional romance filled with familiar tropes, discovering a book that defies all expectations is truly exhilarating. I welcome big plot twists, unexpected antagonists, and mind-boggling conclusions on my reading list.
With this in mind, here are five books I’ve read this year that kept me on the edge until the final pages, spanning various genres such as literary fiction, fantasy, science fiction, and non-fiction, as highlighted in a report by the Express.
In “The Rabbit Club,” an American teenager finds himself entangled in the mysterious and manipulative world of the Saracens, an elite secret society, upon arriving in Oxford. As his aspirations soar, reality blends with fantasy, setting off a series of events with unforeseen repercussions beyond imagination.
Immersing myself in this dark academia thriller proved to be a perplexing experience, delving deeper into darker and more intricate themes than I initially expected. The conclusion left me astounded, prompting a desire to revisit the entire book to uncover hidden nuances.
This book offers an ideal read for the autumn season, perfect for readers seeking a deep narrative.

In “King Sorrow,” six friends make a deadly pact with a dragon, marking Joe Hill’s return to novel writing after almost a decade. The narrative spans four decades following Arthur, Gwen, Colin, Donna, Van, and Allie, who must choose a new victim for King Sorrow every Easter or face dire consequences.
Despite its nearly 900-page length, one might assume parts of the novel would drag or become predictable. However, “King Sorrow” embarks on a genre-defying journey, brimming with unexpected twists and turns that caught me off guard.
Although I had the privilege of an early copy, this novel will hit the shelves later this month.

If you enjoy compelling narratives with morally ambiguous characters, “Make Me Famous” is a must-read. The story revolves around Cléo, an aspiring singer convinced of her inevitable rise to stardom.
We follow her journey to fame and witness her retreat to a remote island after multiple albums, where she composes her fourth album in solitude. “Make Me Famous” takes unexpected twists that left me breathless.
