Authorities discovered a deceased dog in a freezer and 26 other dogs were found overcrowded in a bedroom within the same residence.
Two individuals are facing charges related to animal welfare violations following a police operation at the property where many dogs were found confined in crates and living in poor conditions.
Upon executing a warrant at a residence on Emily Street, Blackburn, law enforcement made the distressing find, including the deceased dog in the freezer and various other animal welfare concerns.
Lancashire Police reported that numerous dogs inside the property were promptly taken into custody for their well-being.
<p"On December 16, Lancashire Constabulary's Dangerous Dog Unit, in collaboration with the Blackburn with Darwen Neighbourhood Policing Team, the RSPCA, and Blackburn with Darwen Trading Standards, carried out a warrant at a property on Emily Street, Blackburn," stated the police.
“During the operation, officers uncovered 26 dogs crammed into a three-bedroom house, many of them confined in crates and enduring substandard living conditions. A deceased dog was found in a freezer, and additional animal welfare violations were identified.
Several dogs were immediately taken into custody for their well-being.”
Following a court appearance on December 17 at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, Lee Wright, 38, of Emily Street, Blackburn, admitted to violating a disqualification order. Wright’s sentencing is scheduled for February next year.
After a veterinary surgeon examined some of the seized dogs and noted that they were suffering from injuries, law enforcement, in conjunction with the RSPCA, revisited the property on Tuesday to remove the remaining dogs.
Subsequently, two individuals were arrested. Wright faced charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal under the Animal Welfare Act and breaching a disqualification order, while Paige Carrington, 27, of Stansfeld Street, Blackburn, was charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal under the Animal Welfare Act.
Wright is set to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on January 22, and Carrington will follow the next day. Wright is under a 10-year disqualification from keeping dogs due to prior convictions related to animal welfare offenses.
